4 days intensiv salamander herping in Ligurian Apennin:

First visited a Speleomantes strinatii spot (Genua province), and found a lot of this species in a cave:

also many Rana italica, and lots of their larvae in the stream:

also many Larvae of Salamandra salamandra gigliolii in all stages developement:

this one is eating a - I think - Rana italica larva:

Great in-situ shot of the Salamandrina and as Jeroen points out, the place to be for Urodele lovers :)

Wow, what's going on here? Can the rest of us at least know why this thread was deleted? I guess there's personal stuff involved but that's a public forum and I, as well as other people, were reading this. The subject of sharing location info, etc. is a serious matter and as most of the people here had come to trust the other members more or less and consider them conscientious, so I think it's unfair to the rest of us that this is suddenly gone without any explanation. I think it's best to know who is who and what is what.

Then, on an other place in Genua province, we made a long walk through the Apennin forest. Dry and warm day!
At last we found one small stream with little water, and there, was sitting this Salamandra salamandra gigliolii, in the afternoon:

the colour black, red and golden ;)

after a good meal, in the dark we went back to the first spot

on this place one important information:
If you visit any amphibien spot, do it only with clean shoes, if you visit different spots on one day, change or desinfect your shoes :!:
