Pristurus sp. in Oman

Postby Igor Maiorano » Fri Apr 12, 2019 9:17 am

Hi, I'm a birdwatcher and I'm not very good in herping.
I took this pictures in Al Ghubrah (northern Oman). I think it is a Pristurus gallagheri or rupestris but I'm not sure.
Is it possible to identify it?
Thank you very much
Igor

I'm no gecko specilist, but I think it is gallagheri.
gallagheri has small narrow, broken lines on the back, while rupestris has two rows of spots.

I'm pretty sure it's rupestris, especially because the mid-dorsal line is missing, which is mostly present at gallagheri.
Could you post a google maps link to the approx location, because i found several Al Ghubrah. With the location we can maybe also rule out gallagheri.

Thanks for the link.
I'm not entirely sure, but I think it's too far north in the mountains for gallagheri, just from the map in the book The Aphibians and Reptiles of Oman and the UAE.
So from the distribution I'm not sure, but I would still vote for rupestris, by the looks and mainly because of the missing cream coloured mid dorsal line.
