melanistic Bufo bufo hatchling
Dear all,
has anybody ever seen a melanistic adult Bufo bufo?
I have found this hatchling in June near Riparbella (Tuscany). Even the eye was black. Hundreds of other hatchlings had the normal brown colouration.
Greetings Alex

Yes, It is either axanthism or melanism. I have seen something like this as well but in a gravel pit- this mutation might have been caused by chemicals that were used in the gravel pit.

My short publication about it has recently been published- I have just sent it to Mario so I hope you will soon be able to find it in the literature database.

Thank you Michal,
my hatchling looked as black as yours. I didn´t want to manipulate the original image. Please send me a pdf of your Article.
Attached the second highlight of that trip (familyholidays).
