Krk in summer

Postby Jeroen Speybroeck » Sat Jul 20, 2019 11:41 am

From 28 July to August 8, I will do another grand tour.

How would you say chances are to find snakes on Krk in that time of year? Waste of breath?

I also think species like ammodytes will be very hard, but if you herp at night you maby can find Telescopus fallax or Zamenis situla.
Good luck!

Marc I think you are right. I remember finding Telescopus fallax at night by accident on Cyprus and it was summer.

just stand up in the morning, so you are ~8:00 in the field or a bit earlier. I think starting at dawn will not be better.
We found 4lineatas there in August at around 10:00 or so, also ammos.

Hi J.,

We just came back from our family holiday in Croatia. We found most snakes very early or very late eg 3 ammos: 07.10, 21.05 and ca. 18.50 after rain.
Longissima at 06.10!
Gemonensis, natrix and tessellata all day.
Good luck
Th

Torrential rain, so we took off and headed west soon, going from Slovenia as for west as Asturias and the Sierra de Gredos in Spain. Report will follow soon.

Also working on a report but we managed to find several N.natrix and T.fallax at night on Krk. We tried in daytime on our last morning (7:30-9:30) during a 2 hours herping session where we missed a huge E.quatuorlineata hiding under a very big rock and found 7 H.gemonensis. Not that bad for 2 hours I suppose.
