Northeast Italy

Northeast Italy

Postby Tomas Klacek » Wed Aug 12, 2020 10:39 am

Hi!
Next week I originally wanted to make a two weeks road trip to Norway, but things changed quickly. Norway government now insists on 14 days quarantine, so we reschedule our trip to a Northeast Italy. Primarily hiking in Dolomites, but I´d also like to go more south (we have a small campervan).
I have not much time to do a proper research, so I´m trying it here.. :)
I really like to see V. a. francisciredi and Italian ammodytes. How south I have to go to see and aps viper, is it possible to see them even in Dolomites? And How east I have to go to see ammo? I know, it´s not a best time of a year for vipers, but I have to try :) I only know Italian mountains in winter time..
Any other advice/ links/ papers/ trip reports will be highly welcome.
Cheers!
t.

aspis you should find there everywhere

for ammodytes you have to go to the Bolzano area (very hard to find there) or east of Belluno, but not so high into the mountains

Thanks Mario,
partial success. I accidentaly found two berus, one at 2250mnm, my personal record :) Totally failed with aspis around Garda on very good spots in very bad weather conditions. Did not try ammo around Bolzano, but I was near Slovenian border where, I guess, it looks promising for them, but found nothing. After failure in Garda I wanted to make my mood better, so I made a little detour to carinthia, randomly pick some promising rocky area on google maps, get soaking wet in a brutal storm, but after that I found two bauties :)

Here are some photos.

Riesachsee, near this place I found 4 years ago beautiful black adder, nothing this time.

Italian part of Julian Alps, nice peaceful place, no people, everybody goes to Slovenian part, or Dolomites.

B. bufo or spinosus?

Also seen and did not photographed:
N. natrix and tessellata, H. viridiflavus, P. siculus, L. viridis, L. bilineata, R. temporaria and S. atra. I have to go back in a future for an aspis!

Cheers,

Thank you! No,just a female alpine newt, I guess carniflex do no occur so high in the mountains (this lake is about 2250 masl).

Thank you very much!

Nothing special, nikon D750 +
- macro Sigma 150mm f2.8, old verison without OS, razor sharp, sometimes little back/front focus, but I totally love this lens. Great for all animals, portraits..
- tamron 45mm f1.8, my newest lens, some of these landscapes are taken by this lens and stitched as a panorama.
- tokina 11-16 f2.8, it is an APSC lens, but fully zoomed can be used on FF :) It has to be stopped down for sharper images and has a big problems in direct sunligt. I'm considering to chamge it for some wide angle fix lens. I'd love something with close focusing distance and sharp image on f2.8 due to night photography...
With regards,
t
