A short trip to the Hermon Mt Israel

Postby Aviad Bar » Wed Sep 15, 2010 7:04 pm

After I saw Jürgen's photos I decided to spend two hours from my vacation in the north of Israel to look for vipers in the Hermon Mt.
At the beginning my girl friend did not like the idea, but nothing is stronger than the passion for herping...
After I promised that we won't climb the Mt and that we will use the cables I got the permission.
In a half an hour of herping I manage to find 2 adults of Vipera bornmuelleri
.

Here it is the most common snake (people pay me to get them out of their property).
I find them frequently when I take my dogs out to the field, or looking for them in the shore dunes by following their tracks on the sand.

Yes, its much better to use cables, (mountain) roads for herping ;)
The successs is much better, if you dont run through the landscape till your physical end

WOW, that`s it, Jürgen`s most wanted!!!!!!!
Look at these nice markings, the great colorations and the massive head!
Compare that with the bornmuelleri and you know why I love this one more!

Aviad the next time I will pay you also, what do think about a cup of coffee at a gas Station?
You can choose the gas station, all right???
;) :D

Hi Aviad!!!!! Nice to meet you here! Mt. Hermon is the Montivipera paradise

Jurgen should have been the day you released the 5 Daboia palaestinae!! :D

I´m thinking in Pseudocerastes and Walterennesia all the time actually! Guy told me you saw a Walterenessia and Varanus last week. I want to come back there!!

Hi Gabriel
Last Saturday I went with Amir to the Negev desert (not far from the dunes that we visited during your trip here) to check ancient water holes.
Reptiles fall during the summer into the water holes and in a wet winter' they drawn.

We checked few holes and found allot of reptiles and few mammals.

Love the Daboia picture.

What a impressing snake that is, bought me 2.2 when i was in Hamm. It would be a dream to sometime get the opportunity to go fieldherping for them.

Really impressive! Israel seems to get the next hot spot for (European) herpers. Soon you may notice numerous strange looking persons with cameras running through the desert ;-)
