The drizzle during the warm Friday night allowed us to find 3 of them, while we expected to find none. Also about 40 juvenile crested newts were on the move.

Jeroen,

As always a case of being in the right place at the right time :D I dipped in Hungary on both the spadefoot and Danube crested newt, despite it being very common in the area.. no rain for weeks... ah well..if it were easy there would be no point to it!

Well, Jeroen's lazyness and lifestyle also infected me so I didn't photograph every species either.
On my website: http://www.herpet-nl.mysites.nl/mypages ... 07650.html you'll find more pictures though, as well as a species list of species we found during this weekend.

I´m woundering, if these Amur rat snakes are official inhabitants of the Netherlands now?
So they may visit coffeeshops without problems :?:

They are there for quite some time now, the first introduction was made in the mid 90's and since then they have spread to other areas in the vicinity. Every year there are juveniles seen so they also reproduce. But they haven't finished their integration course so it's not allowed for them to go to the coffeeshop. But luckily for them they know me :D

Well, thanks, Bob, I didn't even know I had a... how do you call that, lifestyle? Of course I'm lazy after going to bed at 4am (herping) and about 5 or 6am (an alcoholic amusement park by the name of Arnhem city).

I wonder: won't we get banned from this forum: 12 berus and not a single picture to show?

Mario, it's still a very local phenomenon, but nevertheless kinda cool how these big animals adapt without any trouble. I don't think this would turn into an invasive alien, although I'd rather find it in its natural range of course. I am having in fact a hard time to find info on the net about the ecology of this species, since all I find are terrastics pages :? . The best I could find is that they like wetlands and sometimes lay in the water (cf. the European Elaphe s.s. species?)

It's a very rock 'n roll lifestyle!
