My finds of March and April 2012 (pics added)

Postby Sandra Panienka » Sun Apr 15, 2012 11:04 am

I've been a bit lazy online lately, but I wanted to share some pics from last month and this month. For some reason I cannot get the browser to show the March pics. I assume this board doesn't support "ä" in the img-link? So I'm only going to show the pics from this month, until I get the names of the other pics fixed. Everything was found in the near surroundings.

I really like this female Alpine Newt without that marbled pattern. I know there is one really weird looking dark male in that pond, too and I really hope that I can catch a picture of him soon.

Lissotriton vulgaris
That female was snacking some R. temporaria tadpoles and mosquito larvae.

Could this be a P.m. maculiventris male?

This is a little video mainly featuring some scenes of Ichthyosaura alpestris and Bufo bufo that I managed to take during a couple of smaller trips and while helping to carry toads across the streets during the migrations in March.

So you were lazy?! I guess you refer to your posting-frequency here, because with regard to your herping activities you seem to have been quite busy instead!

All the photos are great, but I especially like the ones of Bombina variegata. The lighting and colors are great - they are wildlife documentaries AND very artful indeed ;).

Yes, I'm rather lazy lately when it comes to write posts. I hope I can change that. However, when it comes to herping, it seems I can't stop. I even dream about going herping, but usually I forget to bring my camera or don't remember how it works. And I've found stunning looking Triturus cristatus or Rana temporaria in my dreams. Please, don't profile me. *g*

Oh, I misformulated my question. I know it's a male, I would love to know if it could be a maculiventris.

Yes, sure it could be, but brongniardii is also possible

Thanks Jürgen, so it's not so easy to identify from the picture.

And I finally managed to add the pictures from March. :)

This was nice even before you added the March pictures but now you've just about made me want to move... to Germany no less - and for common widespread amphibians :?

Well done ;)
