Darn, too bad, I meant that one. Thought it was just playing dead.

My girlfriend had an entrance examination to university in Prague today so I decided to go with her and visit Prague population of dice snakes. Within an hour I saw about a hundred of tessellatas, mostly huge adult individuals (up to 1m is no exception). Never saw so many snakes in one place. I have visited this spot in recent years and always saw only a few snakes. All pictures are "in situ".

Yes, zoo population, but they can be observed in many other parts of Prague, especially in the south.

They are native, after huge floods in 2002 there were only a few individuals. After this the flood protection barrier under the zoo was reconstructed. It's built from a huge stones that provides great shelters. Since then the zoo population of dice snakes grows.

This picture (February 2010) was taken in the Prague Zoo, close to the Vltava river, shows, how high the water level was during the flood (yellow/blue flag).
