That´s a good idea ;-)

So what should I do in your opinion if I could find another animal?

I think it must be something introduced.
I'm no Salamander-expert. Are you sure it is Speleomantes? Can you exclude other (exotic, for example North-American) genus?

At first I thought of a young Ensatina eschscholtzi. But now on the big computer screen I'm sure I can see a young Speleomantes.
Interesting finding!

I don't know each single member of the Plethodontidae family, but it's no Ensatina and it looks a lot like Speleomantes italicus to me. Introduced for sure. I would advice you to gather a small crew of searchers and scrutinize the place during a wet or damp and not too cold night.

I´ll go back to "im Solling" tomorrow; I asked some people but they also don´t know which species. Maybe I could find another specimen.

Cheers,
Julius

Hi Julius,

I talked to Michael Veith and he is quite sure that it is a juvenile Hydromantes italicus. He has a lot of reference samples and it would be very interesting to get a sample of one or more individuals from that area to identify the geographic origin of the founders. Please contact him if you find another individual today.

Greetings, Ulli

Hi Ulrich,

Maybe you can give me his contact
Regards,
Julius
