Hello Julius and all repliers.

I have been asked to remove the exact locality from this topic - what I have done now. I changed the locality-name to "im Solling".

At the DGHT Urodela meeting, last weekend, they told about this population. Many individuals have been found there (since Julius' posting here) in all ages. It is estimated, the first specimens have been released before about 20 years there.

I have a naive question: How one can do in practice to estimate this? I guess they did not use any advanced analysis method (maybe I'm wrong). Is it only based on the number of specimens found and assuming a given born/dead ratio? But then, how is it possible to know the number of introduced specimens at the beginning?

Hi all,

I am one of those, who held the presentation about this population. Thank you Mario for the generalization - we refused to give any location more precise than "Solling" also. We actually did never give an estimation about the age of the the population. Here (LINK) are some of the pictures used in the presentation. In total we (means all persons involved in the presentation) have found over 90 animals there (split on different visits).

Best regards
Kamil

Why so secretive about an alien species?

What is the difference between a rare alien species and a rare native species?

Dear Kamil,

I was wondering how you could estimate the date where those guys were released at this location (see my post above)? Do you have an idea?

Thanks!

Hi Guillaume,

They are at least there for 2 years now as we found animals newly hatched and 1 year old. I estimate the age of the by the size of the CB Speleomantes I'm having at home. But how old this population is for real is out of my knowledge.
