there´s no change in scalation after birth - at least there´s no proof about
I remember the paper by Tomovic, L., M. A. Carretero, R. Ajtic & J. Crnobrnja-Isailovic (2008): Evidence for post-natal instability of head scalation in the meadow viper (Vipera ursinii) – patterns and taxonomic implications. -- Amphibia-Reptilia 29 (2008): 61-70 (PDF-1331 in DB)
Higher (or lower too) numbers in scales and scutes depend on temperature during prenatal ontogenesis.

Hi all,

Just a small clarification about my photos of snakes and lizards: all individuals are in situ, without any manipulation. Vipers are mating now and I try to minimize disturbance.

I just caught one Hierophis to show it to my 10 years old son ...
