Trachemys in South Bavaria

Postby Jürgen Gebhart » Sun Apr 29, 2012 2:51 pm

After a long wait and search (Not really!) I found today the first Aliens in one of “my” Gravel pits.
The pound is the home of Bufo bufo, Rana temporaria, Pelophylax, Lesotrition vulgaris, Ichthyosaura alpestris and now
of two Trachemys scripta elegans and one Trachemys scripta scrpita.

Thank you so much, you Idiot (Whoever you are)!

Too bad. But the turtles seem to look quite happy.

We have the same problem overhere, Trachemys all over the place. Very sad result of the "throw-away society" we're living in.

I know it`s not only a problem in my area. It` s a problem in complete middle- and south Europe. It makes me very angry.
So I wrote an Article at a local News Paper with an accusation to this people, maybe one or two people start thinking now before they to a crime like this.

It is no surprise to see them in the city gardens. But it is sad in particular, when they are introduced in natural ponds with a rich herpetofauna...

Hi,

well, that sucks. I hate seeing the Trachemys popping up anywhere they don't belong.
