First Vipera aspis of the year 2014

Postby Stéphane Aubry » Tue Feb 11, 2014 4:51 pm

Hi everybody,

First herping session of year and a very beautiful weather, sunny with 6-7 C°!

I discovered my first Vipera aspis of the year at the same place of my first of 2013. It seems that this individual was previously observed last week (06.02.14) by an other herper.

This individual was not shy and I was able to stay with her during more than 20 minutes without any disturbance.

Cool, should I come now or should I wait a few more Days? ;)

Was out last Friday, the first time since end of September 2013, weather was ok, but nothing was out.
Try it next Saturday again.

It's a big hibernation, really too long for a viper lover !!!

Congratulations Stéphane!! I was in the field on Sunday but the place where I've been was still too wet in my opinion ;)

Cool pictures, Stéphane :!: Here in Germany the weather is pretty warm for the season. I've been in the Black Forest two weeks ago and there was just a thin layer of snow melting. The situation is pretty different than what we had last year (low temperatures during March with som snow until April!). Let's wait until March to investigate my vipers spot...I look forward finding them again.

There are already many Podarcis out (and some butterflies in my garden).
I know Vipera berus have been seen in Massif Central recently.
