Those E.schrenckii look awesome - Is their population on the increase in this location?

Great stuff GJ!

@Neil, the population is definitely increasing and its range expanding. The first introduction consisted of 6 juvenile animals and in the first introduction site alone there are an estimated 50 adult snakes living. I've been there again two weekends ago and could find several adult snakes basking, they aren't shy at all and the attached picture is an in-situ shot - with my camera a picture like this means a distance of 20cm!

GertJan, you seem to have an awfully successful start into this year´s herping season ;)! I do very much envy you for finding Pelobates! Your pictures are great, I especially like the juvenile Elaphe schrencki.

Thanks amigos & amiga, Bob , you were lucky I guess, the large schrenckii adults took off as soon as I came closer, all 3...

Laura. the Pelobates were nice, I didn't expect to see any, but 4 of them showed themselves.

Paul, next week will be even better....I hope.

Do you guys know the reason for the introduction of Elaphe schrenckii in NL? Who is controlling this population?

Irresponsible behaviour. The guy who owns that B&B allowed a friend to release the "poor animals" into his garden.

Don't know the details, but at least some action would be planned. Other than that & until now, the answer = nobody.

Thanks Jeroen for those interesting information. I would be curious to know the legislation in the NL: Is it allowed to handle and collect non-native snakes?
