Berus Trip

Postby Jürgen Gebhart » Tue Apr 22, 2014 4:14 pm

Watching the weather conditions I thought it is a good idea to make a berus Trip.
So I visited some spots and expect a lot of vipera`s.

Frist spot, Sunny with some clouds, 12 Degrees
At a place I found at this time of the year at least five or six, I found just three black beauties.

At little bit Disappointed I drove to the next spot.
Sunny with some clouds, 14,5 Degrees.
I don`t like that place, it is hard to walk and the berus population is small.
In the past three years a work mate found two and I found three, all brown with no Bands.
As I told you, I don`t like that place, I lost my trail in the Woods, no idea where I was and I run into this nice berus, one more Step and my foot would be on it.

After I found my car again I decided to visit my best spot.
Less sun, lot of clouds, looked for rain, Temperatures 15 Degrees (Yes, close to perfect!)
But most the places of I checked were empty! (maybe the males are on the way to females)

But I found three black Beauties

And a white magic, fresh shed, you can see the skin on the left side under the snake.

After I came back to the place the snake have done me a favor and changed the position.

Tomorrow I am heading south. South Tyrol and Tuscany, with my wife, but with many herping hours!
I will come back with a bunch of pics - Vipera aspis (a lot of), Lacerta bilineata and Testudo herrmani!!!!!

Btw. In this part of South Tyrol where we are going I never found a Asp before.
And in 14 Trips to Tuscany I found just one Asp – DOR!

Hi Jürgen,

After reading your post it seems that you are a bit disapointed but those are nice results to me! In particular the so-called "white magic" is stunning  Good luck for your trip, I hope you will find new locations and interesting populations.

Great Jurgen!!, getting lost is impossible, the only thing that can happen is maybe you need some extra km's to find the car again :D
