Stunning Pictures!
The V. berus shot with the shy Natrix is really great.

No idea.
But I see it rather often.
A couple of examples...
Perhaps the most remarkable example I don't have any pictures of. I scared off a pile of three grass snakes that dispersed in all directions only to reveal a neonate adder that had lain beneath them.

Nice Czech Republic is one of my favourite countries (never herped there). Do you have any experiences of the czech border and german border
near the Sächsische Schweiz (Saxon Switzerland) or Bohemian Switzerland ?

Thank you!
I'm sorry but I have been in Bohemian Switzerland only once and I found nothing from reptiles or amphibians.

Hey Martin!
Very nice and interesting photos indeed!
I have no idea why the two species bask together, and can only speculate - but I guess, basking next to each other provides more safety and maybe warmth, regardless of which species of snake it is. So, if a snake seeks one of those things at a given moment, why not?

My thoughts exactly - that I was too lazy to formulate when I simply wrote "No idea"

I want to send a small collage of photos about herping in Czech Republic for the year 2015 and I wish you happy new year and many experience with reptiles, amphibians and other animals.
